♫ Pressed And - Pat Pat

Memories are obstacles, and an unknown future looms.

This track comes off Post-Ad for Sync, a split release by Pressed And and It is rain in my face., which was put out by [^]LAND Magazine a little less than a week ago. I can remember listening to it immediately after I found it in my mailbox, but I only got around to really take my time for it today. In the meantime it has gotten quite some attention on other blogs, but since it is such a nice EP I thought I might write some words about it as well; there might still be some individuals out there who missed it the first time or whose memories need to be refreshed.

Though “Pat Pat” by Pressed And is my favourite track of the bunch, there’s not a track on Post-Ad for Sync that I don’t like. A perfect blend of melody, percussion and vocals, the tracks are ambient and easy to listen to, yet are full of variation so as to keep your attention throughout the whole song. One of the nicer EP’s I’ve heard so far in 2011.

Get the EP for pay-what-you-want on the [^]LAND bandcamp page.

This whole thing also reminded me of “Ona”, a track Pressed And did for We Fall Apart, the Unholy Rhythms/Cactus Mouth Valentine’s Day Mix from last month, and one of my favourites on that mix for that matter. Listen to it below and, if you haven’t already, go download the entire mix over here.

Winter is just about done making every muscle in my body contract painfully, so Dwight and I are gearing up for Spring at Crash Symbols. Of course, what better way to do that than to put together another mixtape for you guys of new tracks and unearthed demos from…

Ah….The days when pop and house had beautiful babies together….

Love - sometimes elusive, sometimes painful. At some point in our life, we may experience love and with that feeling might come heartbreak.
After the success of our Holiday Sweaters & Egg Nog compilation, Cactus-Mouth and I decided to team up again for two of music’s great subject matters: love & heartbreak. We asked artists to give us their interpretation of either a love or heartbreak song - exclusively for us. While some may tug at your heart strings, they are never too saccharine or sappy, nor are they too dismal or bleak. This is a MONSTER mix - 20 different artists - 71 minutes of heart-stopping goodness.
We were super lucky to get such wonderful contributions from these artists. This time around we had some amazing covers - from the stupendously catchy “Not Feeling The Love (Trapped In The Black Lodge)” R. Kelly cover by Kuhrye-oo, the Wintercoats’ sublime “Someone To Share My Life With” Jens Lekman cover, Naminé’s echo-y, heartbreaking New Order “Bizarre Love Triangle” cover, and the swirling, swoon worthy “The Way You Look Tonight” Frank Sinatra cover by Saskatchewan. They do the originals justice and even surpass them, if I say so myself.
I feel so grateful to have newer artists on board like: Moths (he released a video for our track yesterday), Under Alien Skies, clownfacee, Youth Castles, and Pressed And, as well as some of my dream comp artists like Jeans Wilder, Local Winds & Top Girls, Fielded, and Welcome Back Sailors. We also pulled in the likes of such talented folks as Medic Hands, Sutja Gutiérrez, Kiss Kiss Fantastic, and Ra Calium. A big special shout out to my eternal homeboy, the ever wonderful, ever helpful: Guerre. No exclusive comp of mine (collaboration or not) will ever be complete without some input from him!
Before I close, I must add that one of the most giggle inducing (in a completely good way) tracks on the comp is Butterclock’s “breakUPparadize”. Drawing from “Gangster Paradise”, it will leave you both slightly heartbroken yet smiling. ALSO, a radically different, super lo-fi mono track from Ricky Eat Acid entitled “Seventeen”.
I want to thank each and every artist on the mix, my good buddy Cactus Mouth, and, most of all, you for listening. FEEL THE LOVE! ♥

♫ ArnHao - Love Fades

Love fades with the cold sun

As “Time”, a passer by, points west

Valentine is only two more weeks ahead of us now and this is either a day you spend together with your significant other or a day you spend alone, pretending you don’t care. It’s a day that exploits couples and laughs in the face of singles (unless you really don’t care of course). This song is meant for the singles among us.

ArnHao (Atlanta-based duo Andrew Hamlet and Arturo Holmes) will be releasing Love Fades as a 7” on Denmark Records on Valentine’s day, February 14th. “Love Fades” is different from ArnHao’s previous tracks in the sense that it’s not beat or percussion driven, but relies mainly on the impressive vocal part. The music itself is very simple and consists only of a synthesizer loop assisted by a few well-placed piano and guitar melodies. The vocals build up slowly and culminate towards the song’s ending with some very high notes, after which the songs slowly fades out, just like the love it has been talking about.

“Love Fades” will, apart from the 7”, also be released as a special free Valentine gift for those who send an email to DenmarkRecords@gmail.com. The gift includes an mp3 of this song, the video, the lyrics, a remix by holygrailers and a special note. Get it if you like.
